Very quick update from the lobby of the Holiday Inn Express at O'Hare. Yes, you read it right. We left for the Des Moines Airport at 6:30 a.m. The small amount of slushy snow caused our first flight to be cancelled but they put us on another flight that would arrive at O'Hare in plenty of time. That was right after we cleared security...including Brian's pat down. Already happy campers, our second flight was delayed. But, still we made it to Chicago in time for the Hong Kong flight...because that flight too was delayed.
Then, after 3 hours on the tarmac...yes that's correct, 3 hours....we were told that our crew didn't have enough hours to fly us to Hong Kong. So, we all got off and stood in very long lines to get vouchers for the hotel. Which, coincidentally, is right across the street from the hotel where we stayed on Labor Day weekend for the Bethany Hubei Girl reunion!
As the driver whipped the van around a corner to the hotel, Sydney said in a very loud voice, "This is driving me crazy!"
And, the last painful piece of this is that they kept our luggage. We kept our carryons...which consist mainly of the laptop, all of the adoption paperwork, a couple of changes of clothes for Sydney, some snacks for Sydney, some games for Sydney, some coloring books for Sydney. The plane will not smell so good tomorrow!
But, we are on our way to our son. So, at 8 a.m. tomorrow, wheels up again.
